November is a month for celebration and commemoration, with Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving being two of the most commonly acknowledged holidays. However, November is not as commonly known but recognized by the United States Government, our President, and thousands of people as National Veterans & Military Families Month. Geo Owl, being a company that is made up of 95% veterans, holds this recognition near and dear to our hearts. The veterans we have amongst our team that specialize in geo intelligence and their families deserve recognition for their sacrifices and service.
In 1996, November was first declared as Veterans & Military Families Month by the Armed Services YMCA, and for the past 24 years, the U.S. Government has recognized the occasion every year since. Each month of November, the United States Department of Veteran’s Affairs holds scheduled events to celebrate, memorialize, and salute those with active spouses or children, siblings, and parents as well as those who are no longer enlisted. In 2016, President Obama was the first president to officially sign a proclamation announcing the month of November as National Veterans & Military Families Month, and the tradition has continued since with 2020 being the fourth year President Trump has signed.
How to increase awareness and provide support
At Geo Owl, we strive to show appreciation and support in any way we can not, only for our geo intelligence professionals who are ex-military, but for everyone who has risked their lives to serve. Through our Military Transition Program, we are committed to assisting our veterans and their loved ones in preparing for their next mission in life. You can help support the military community by adopting a soldier for the holidays, visit war memorials with your family to teach children the value of service, volunteer at local Veterans Service Organizations such as the Red Cross or Disabled American Veterans, simply say thank you to those who have served and their families for their courage, or fly an American flag in your front yard.
Military families embody courage, strength, and resilience to withstand the separation from their loved ones, numerous lifestyle adjustments to new living situations, and endlessly caring for those who protect our country. Geo Owl would like to thank all of our veterans, those active in duty, and their families not just throughout the month of November, but each month following.
