What brought you to Geo Owl?
I finished Graduate School at UNCW and I was looking to stay in the Wilmington area. Some professional colleagues I knew through school recommended Geo Owl, so I applied and had talked to a recruiter the same day. It was a really quick turn around and a great application process. I got started the next week.
What do you do at Geo Owl?
I am a Geospatial Production Analyst. Most of that entails looking at satellite imagery and collecting points, lines and polygons to reflect what I see. I also do quality control on the data we collect to make sure it is prepared to submit to the customer.
What is your favorite part of your job?
The company culture, everyone is really friendly, it’s like we are all a big family.
Do you have any hobbies? If so, what?
During quarantine, my hobbies have just been hanging out with my girlfriend and my dog. I have recently jumped back into reading, I also enjoy surfing with friends and the beach.
What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book right now is “Thinking Fast and Slow”, it gives you an idea of the way people think. The author is a renowned psychologist and winner of the Nobel Prize in Economics, and explains the two systems that drive the way we think. System 1 is fast, intuitive, and emotional; System 2 is slower, more deliberative, and more logical.
Where do you see yourself five years from now?
Honestly, I take it a week at a time! My main focus is growing my professional career as much as I can right now.
What advice would you give to other people in your career field?
I think the biggest thing that I’ve learned is to be teachable and always have a desire to learn.
